PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This project's mandate was to create a booklet showcasing the art in the Montreal subway system, with a unique concept that could transfer to a cover and spreads that were at the same time still relevant to the metro and art found within it.

OBJECTIVES

The project’s main objective was to create a book with the art found in the metro. We had to execute this task with a concept chosen by our teacher. My teacher encouraged me to execute this project with the concept of “connections” in mind. A concept that expresses the importance of the metro in Montreal and how it connects people and destinations while also keeping in mind that it connects conventionality and art

PROCESS

Keeping the concept of “connections” in mind while I was doing this project was extremely hard. Figuring out the positioning of the images and text throughout the spreads while trying to keep relevance to the concept and making it make sense in an editorial way was very time-consuming.

The solution I found to achieve my goal and convey my vision was to connect the multiple elements in the spreads of the book through the grid. Alignment was everything for me in this project. Furthermore, I made some images overlap to represent visually in an obvious way the concept of connections.
I also created a pattern throughout the book and separated the different metro stations by their corresponding lines. Throughout the spreads, you can see a clear visual correlation between the colour of the subway line ad the metro stations. The colour association really influenced this project as well.
